Mobile Performance… It’s a big deal

Since mobile and tablet overtook desktop internet usage in 2016, a lot has changed in how we approach the concept of web design. While the concepts of “mobile first”, and “responsive design” get a lot of attention in our industry, something you hear very little about is performance optimization. Part of the reason for this is that most businesses are locked into turn-key solutions that have very limited performance enhancement capabilities. In other words, if there isn’t a plugin that can do it, nobody bothers to optimize performance. Big bloated content management systems bog down mobile devices more than they need to. What is the result? Well, what we often see as a result is slow performing, and slow loading sites with choppy display transitions. The user experience expectation is low on mobile, but that is changing. If you rely on mobile solutions for mission critical functions such as commerce transactions, or processing form data as a point of contact, you should consider having a mobile performance analysis done on your site. There are many low-cost performance enhancements that can make a major difference in the overall performance and effectiveness of your site.
