Marketing Struggles

As inbound marketing struggles to capture the elusive return on investment with ever increasing levels of behavior analysis, Account-Based Marketing (ABM) has captivated the B2B market with promises of obtaining those "prime accounts". The glaring truth in this seems to be that targeted marketing is vastly more effective than other more traditional models from the past. No surprise there. The old days of the shotgun style, spray and pray methods, just aren't cost-effective in this fluctuating economy. The rifled approach means a more clearly defined ROI, and removes a lot of the guess work from traditional inbound campaigns.

Multivariant testing, competitive analysis, neuroscience... these are the tools of the modern marketing trade. A website can reflect these methods, and campaign driven landing pages are a great way to test and target your audience. You have to speak to your audience like they are sitting right across from you, not like an announcement in a department store. If you know your target persona, start a dialog. If you need a hand, we're here to help.

When Design is Not Art.

Often times conveying the significance of aesthetics is difficult to companies and clients alike. While personal preference may have a role in design, it really takes the back seat in our approach to user experience design. Often times in our industry you will hear people say "I don't care what it looks like, I just want it to work". Well, in the field user experience (UX) design, how it looks IS how it works. The two concepts are intrinsically tied together. The Oxford Journal states it well:

The goal of UX design in business is to “improve customer satisfaction and loyalty through the utility, ease of use, and pleasure provided in the interaction with a product.”

While there are many design and development disciplines that can go into this process, it is an ongoing endeavor in an ever-changing landscape of new technology and social climates. The principles behind the need for UX will not likely go away anytime soon. The reason for this being that this need stems from the nature of human behavior. So if you are presenting information to an audience, selling product, or providing a service, you need to know how your audience is consuming their technology. Knowing the standards is one thing, improving those standards is another. Neuromarketing, and behavioral science don't guess, or look for what is trendy, they are looking at what works. Making what works artistic... well now that's icing on the cake.

Mobile Performance… It’s a big deal.

Since mobile and tablet overtook desktop internet usage in 2016, a lot has changed in how we approach the concept of web design. While the concepts of “mobile first”, and “responsive design” get a lot of attention in our industry, something you hear very little about is performance optimization. Part of the reason for this is that most businesses are locked into turn-key solutions that have very limited performance enhancement capabilities. In other words, if there isn’t a plugin that can do it, nobody bothers to optimize performance. Big bloated content management systems bog down mobile devices more than they need to. What is the result? Well, what we often see as a result is slow performing, and slow loading sites with choppy display transitions. The user experience expectation is low on mobile, but that is changing. If you rely on mobile solutions for mission critical functions such as commerce transactions, or processing form data as a point of contact, you should consider having a mobile performance analysis done on your site. There are many low-cost performance enhancements that can make a major difference in the overall performance and effectiveness of your site.

The ever-changing landscape of digital marketing has seen some very pivotal years as of late.

The ever-changing landscape of digital marketing has seen some very pivotal years as of late. From all indications 2017 will be no exception. There is currently a major shift in the world of social media that is reshaping the way we think about communicating marketing messages. While traditional marketing still has a strong share in this landscape, social marketing is dominating… like a boss. Nearly one-third of the world uses social networks regularly (eMarketer, 2016). “Global reach” just got real. Many small business owners still believe that their brick and mortar store would not benefit from digital marketing solutions, still relying on phone books billboards and newspaper ads. This is a completely false belief, and here’s why: Even if your brick and mortar store is strictly local, you could be leveraging your current business to expand into new monetization models, whereby you can diversify your revenue sources to create a more stable business in a shaky economy. What will the trends hold for tomorrow... we can't say, but a diverse business with multiple monetization methods will still be a good investment.  Need help creating a strategy to optimize your business in this digital landscape? Give us a call.

Websites 101

If you have an existing site, or are looking at building your first, this article may bring clarity to your decision-making process. The key factor that every site owner must consider is the return on your investment.  How is this effort and investment going to generate more business or profits for the site owner? The strategies involved here vary as much as the budgets for this investment do. At the entry point your may be simply securing a position for a future investment while making your presence known in the digital world. This is a soft launch of your digital identity to give you the essentials required to then consider the next level of web marketing. This level of marketing is marketing with a measurable action. At this level we have a conversion point (or many points optimally) that can generate leads, convert sales, create awareness, or leverage market share. How well this performs depends on the level of investment you make in one of two avenues. If you have the time and the vision, a well branded web marketing campaign built to accomplish it’s mission can run on it’s own steam. This is the “If you build it, they will come” style of approach. Great care should be taken to define your audience, and their various touch-points. Once you know who you are engaging, and you have the proper means of communicating your mission to this audience, you can focus on refining the process as you see fit. Another mode of web marketing initiative is to build what is functional and promote it heavily through ad spend, affiliate marketing, and other forms of search marketing. This method has some definite advantages, but generally is best suited for less competitive markets. Beyond these initiatives are other levels of service that either resolve business process requirements, or facilitate other informational or resource oriented web-based initiatives. Whatever your objective we have a strategy to get you on your way to reaching your online business solution. Just remember these key factors:

Make it for people: Even Google is analyzing how user friendly your site is.

Make it mobile: Mobile first in this new digital age. Responsive design doesn’t always mean mobile first.

Make it quick: This is akin to mobile. Speed is a major factor in your user’s experience, and Google’s ranking process. With mobile devices speed is a major consideration.

Make it with purpose: This site is your salesman, and he’s hourly. Get to the point, and quickly. While marketing hype may stroke your ego… “ain’t nobody got time for that”.

Make it secure: Obtain an SSL certificate on any site with transactions of data or money, and strongly consider a Sitelock for any/all sites. If you use a vulnerable system such as Wordpress, a Sitelock should be required.

Make it scalable: Make sure your efforts today won’t hurt you tomorrow. This will require a plan for the future, but an ounce of strategy is worth a pound of DOH!

We at Digital Marketing Group hope this information is helpful, but if you want to discuss your specific needs, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.

The “Competition”… isn’t.

It would be remiss to dispel the notion that we have competition, but locally we really have a significant leg up over the “competition”. While we could sing our own praises to tell of our happy clients who have prospered through our services, we’ll just focus on the bottom line.

We’re affordable. No, really. We can create a strategy to meet your budget today that will not strangle your growth tomorrow.

We’re dependable. Meeting deadlines, and exceeding expectations is how we invest in our business. It’s that simple.

We’re “truly local”. We want local business because we know our local business community is our key to growth. The same is true for our clients. Your investment in us as a local solution provider is an investment in your community.

We’re scalable. Our solutions are designed to grow with your needs. We avoid throw-away solutions that are designed to keep you chasing trends. Our framework is agile, so custom solutions don’t require complete tear downs and rebuilds. The core foundation of our services is always focused on delivering a future-proof solution that meets your budget today. From enterprising to enterprise we can build a solution for you.

We know the “competition”. We know the services and technology they provide. While the “competition” isn’t exactly nipping at our heels, we enjoy the play we get from them.

Is a turn-key solution always the right solution for saving cost?

At Digital Marketing Group, we’re all about cutting costs, and providing the best solution for specific business needs. If you’re looking for an agency, or a solution provider, you’ve no doubt heard this pitch before. It’s important to understand that while many agencies and solution providers tend to be cheerleaders for their cost-saving solution, it’s important to ask… “who’s cost is really being saved?”. What saves cost for the provider or agency may not be the best long-term solution for the client. We’re not afraid to stretch ourselves a little to break away from the turn-key solutions you may have heard about, to extend to our clients a custom or lesser know quality solutions. We’re committed to create clients for life. Our approach is simple, the more business you do, the more services you may require from us. A successful client is our greatest asset and advocate. Your success is our success, and that’s why we make sure we’re thinking ahead when considering the right solution for our clients.

When it comes to web-based business solutions, free is cheap, but in the derogatory sense. The lack of security and scalability of many solutions may be ok today, but what about in a year from now? The investment you make today in your online business solutions should not require you to rebuild and reinvest at the same level of commitment you have already made for a lesser solution to offset future growth. If you have to reinvest with every milestone of growth your business goes through, your profits are wasted, and you’re forever chasing the elusive “return on investment”.

So what is the answer? Demand more today! Don’t settle for the turn-key solutions of short-term, turn-and-burn solution providers. Specifically you need a secure, scalable solution that can facilitate multiple business or consumer touch points without reinventing the wheel every new growth cycle. That being said, we can offer a range of services and solutions at scale for you today so that you will be here tomorrow. Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York… our “local business” attitude is redefining “local business”. We want to hear about your business and your process. Let’s see what kind of future we can build together.

Why is Reputation Management Important?

Reputation management is a practice that companies use to help shape the public opinion of their brand or services/products. With the introduction of the internet and social media, the meaning of this phrase has changed quite a lot over recent years. The reviews posted online on websites like Facebook, Google, or Yelp can easily determine a customer's opinion of your brand and products. There are artificial ways to help create a positive impression on your online reputation by choosing what information you wish to share online, but you cannot control the general consumers conversation about you or your brand. The only truly effective way to create a positive reputation is through professional and appropriate behavior. At Digital Marketing Group, we recommend that any business promotes themselves honestly and actively interacts with their customers. The importance of social media marketing, and an accurate and accessible website is greater than ever.
